Ricaye Harris averaged 16.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.9 steals as a senior in keying Muncie Central to a 16-6 season for coach Brent Tinder. Earlier, the 5-foot-6 guard averaged 9.8 points as a freshman for a 9-12 team, 14.8 points as a sophomore for an 11-10 squad and 16.6 points in just seven games because of injury for the 14-7 Bearcats. In 71 career games, she totaled 991 points and scored a career-high 32 points against Frankton on Feb. 8, 2001. Harris was selected 2001 AP high honorable mention All-State, 2001 Muncie Star-Press first-team all-East Central Indiana and two-time team MVP. She played in the 2001 North/South Indiana All-Star Classic and amassed 10 varsity letters by competing in basketball, soccer, track and volleyball. After high school, Harris went to Wofford College in South Carolina, where she totaled 1,167 points, 260 rebounds, 265 assists and 199 steals in 112 games over four seasons for four coaches. She averaged 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals as a freshman, 14.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals as a sophomore, 10.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals as a junior and 9.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals as a senior. She stands 12th on the Terriers’ career scoring list as well as third in career 3- pointers (169), ninth in career steals and 10th in career assists. She also is eighth in season free throw accuracy (.746 as a sophomore), was named 2003 Southern Conference all- tournament and was selected a two-time team MVP. She played semi-pro basketball for the South Carolina All-Stars from 2008-11. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Wofford College in 2005 and master’s degree in Christian Ministries from North Greenville University in 2011. She was ordained as an elder of New Life Church in 2019 and has completed two half marathons. Since 2005, she has worked in various roles for Milliken & Company of Spartanburg, S.C., currently as vice president of human resources and employee engagement. Harris was inducted into Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015.
