Game Recap

The Varsity Boys Soccer Team picked up another Conference victory today against Arsenal Tech. The Girls Varsity team led off the double header day at home with a victory, while the boys immediately followed.

The game was hard fought between both sides, and included almost every detail a soccer match can provide. Muncie Central started the day off missing a key player from their starting 11, and Arsenal Tech would eventually find themselves playing with 10 Men after 2 Yellow Cards left them short by one part way through the 2nd half.

The Bearcats went down 1 – 0 after an unlucky bounce caused some incidental hand contact that was deemed enough to change the play as the Titans were awarded a P.K. with only 7 minutes left in the 1st half. However, MCHS came out firing in the second half as Clark Bailey found Jack Byrnes streaking forward where he knocked home the equalizer in the first :12 seconds. Midway through the 2nd Half, Onnie Adams beat the Keeper to the ball in a one on on, and though he couldn’t bury the shot, he was able to draw the foul and subsequent Penalty Kick on the Goalie. Clark Bailey would hit the P.K. to give the Bearcats the 2 – 1 lead. Arsenal Tech would equalize in the next 15 minutes off of a nice shot that just slipped through hands of Noah Scott in goal.

After 2 scoreless Overtime sessions, the game was decided in Penalty Kicks. Clark Bailey, Logan Hagans, Jack Byrnes, Kaleb Thomas, and Nathan Bailey all hit from the P.K. spot leaving their Keeper one more chance to make a game-winning stop. Noah Scott then made a great diving save to his left against a well taken P.K. that then hit off the post and out securing the win for Central!

This makes the Varsity Record 6 – 2 – 3. Their next game is on Monday against Yorktown, Away at 6:00 pm.
