The Lady Bearcats may have had a chilly trip to Purdue, but they heated up the pool upon arrival. The Bearcats finished in 5th with their small team, they were also nearly perfect in swimming season bests in every event at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Leading the way for the ladies was Sarah Tinder (200 Free, Fly) and Chloe Townsend(50 Free, 100 Free) who both ascended the awards platform in all of their events for the day. Joining them with top eight finishes in at least one individual event were Maggie Connolly (Back), Rachel Hill (Diving), Natalie Smith (Diving), and Tara Horst (Breaststroke).
Swimmers who made the podium in the relay events included:
200 Medley Relay (5th)- Maggie Connolly, Sarah Tinder, Tara Horst, Chloe Townsend
200 Free Relay (5th) -Maggie Connolly, Sarah Tinder, Tara Horst, Chloe Townsend
400 Free Relay (7th) – Kenzie Hughes, Olivia Phillips, Grace Rosenbaum, Jenna O’Donahue
Highlights of the day included the quick start had by the Bearcats as they dropped lots of time early. Kenzie Hughes and Sarah Tinder started the day by dropping 8 and 5 seconds respectively in the 200 freestyle with both winning their heats and taking home a free t-shirt! Shelby Murphy had a big drop in her 100 free looking very smooth on her way to her first time under 1:30 going a 1:26. Grace Rosenbaum dropped 7 seconds in the 500 approaching her 2016 sectional time and Maggie Connolly dropped 2 seconds in the 100 back doing the same. Jenna O’Donahue rounded out the day dropping 2 seconds in the 100 breaststroke.
All in all it was a solid performance by every Bearcat as they finished up a long couple weeks of Christmas training.
The ladies are back in action next Saturday at Muncie Central against conference foes Anderson and Kokomo. See attachment for full conference results.
